A well-planned legacy is a lasting gift of love. It shows thoughtfulness and care, easing the burden on those you cherish the most.

Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)

Purpose: Appoint someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf in the event that you lose mental capacity to do so.

How it becomes a gift of love: Ensure those your cherish do not encounter unnecessary difficulties. Give a trusted person the legal right to make important decisions on your behalf, to care for you and those you cherish when you are unable to do so.

What to do:

  • Step 1 - Consider whom you wish to appoint to make decisions on your behalf (called Donees) and the powers to be granted to them.

  • Step 2 - Complete the online LPA form (opens in new tab) (10 minutes).

  • Step 3 - Your Donee(s) will receive SMS notifications to accept the appointment(s).

  • Step 4 - After your Donee(s) have accepted the appointment(s), schedule an appointment with a Certificate Issuer (opens in new tab) to certify your LPA.

  • Step 5 - Meet your Certificate Issuer, who will ensure you understand the purpose of the LPA and the scope of authority you have conferred on your trusted persons.

Advance Care Planning (ACP)

Purpose: Communicate your healthcare and personal care preferences for a situation where you lose mental capacity or cannot speak for yourself.

How it becomes a gift of love: Provide your family guidance during emotionally challenging times, easing their burden.

What to do:

  • Step 1 - Use the myACP (opens in new tab) service to prepare an Advance Care Plan (ACP) online.

  • Step 2 - Get each Nominated Healthcare Spokesperson (NHS) to accept their appointment.

  • Step 3 - Share ACP with NHS once registered.

Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment with an ACP facilitator (opens in new tab) to register your plan. You can meet your facilitator online or in person.

CPF Nomination

Purpose: Decide how you'd like your CPF savings to be distributed when you pass on.

How it becomes a gift of love: Ensure your CPF savings go to the right people without delays. Without a CPF nomination, it can take up to 6 months for the Public Trustee’s Office to identify which of your family members are eligible to claim your savings.

Purpose: Specify how your money, property and possessions are to be distributed, and who to take care of your dependants after your death.
